RIP Richard Wright

Growing up I was never into sports or extracurricular activities. What I was into was music. I remember spending hours in my room every night listening to various albums (yes, albums!), reading the liner notes, studying the lyrics, just taking it all in. Music talked to me in a way nothing else ever did.

One of my earliest musical memories is stealing my sister's copy of Pink Floyd's The Wall and listening to it on my headphones for hours. I was about 10 years old and really didn't fully understand what I was listening to, but I knew it meant something. I could feel such emotion from those songs - the anguish and frustration and madness. At 10 years old I knew I was listening to something amazing.

Pink Floyd has remained a constant in my life. So many of my memories are associated with Pink Floyd songs. Their music has almost been like a soundtrack to my life. To this day I can put my headphones on and turn on a Floyd disc and completely escape to another world.

On Monday, September 15th, Richard Wright passed away from a battle with cancer. Richard Wright was one of the founding members of Pink Floyd. I never knew him and yet he managed to touch my life in so many ways. It's amazing to me how a complete stranger can do something like that. So my prayers go out to his family and may he rest in peace. Thank you for the beautiful music you helped create.

I wasn't even aware he'd passed away. :-( I love Pink Floyd. Godspeed, Richard Wright.

And I've still got an album collection. Guess I'm dating myself!
