We've signed Ella up for swim lessons this summer (despite the fact that we not only do not have a pool, but we don't even have access to a pool). I started swimming at 6 months old and absolutely love the water, so I was hoping to pass this along to my daughter. Unfortunately, I may have waited too long to get her started.
Today was her 2nd lesson and they're trying to teach the kids to go underwater. There are 3 other children in her class and all of them are considerably younger. First kid goes under, no problem. Second kid goes under, no problem. Third kid goes under and suddenly you hear my child start shrieking "I don't want to go underwater! I DON'T WANT TO GO UNDERWATER!!" The other mothers watching from the sidelines all giggled while I tried my best not to jump into the pool and smother my frightened child with hugs and kisses. The instructor ensured her that she didn't have to go under if she didn't want to, so that was good, but the whole rest of the lesson you kept hearing this little voice pipe up "don't you put me underwater, daddy".
She's getting the kicking thing down, at least.
